1953 obituary. John C. Hyberts, 67, died Tuesday morning at his residence,
133 Morning Street, after a long illness. He was born in Denmark, Jan. 9, 1886,
and came to this city at the age of ten. He was educated in the local schools
and entered the coast guard as a young man. He later became chief engineer
for the Eastern Steamship Company, retiring after 30 years service.
In later years he was a stationary engineer for the New England Shipbuilding
Corporation. He was employed at City Hall when taken ill. He was a member of
Deering Lodge, AF & AM, Deering Chapter, OES, Enighed Lodge, Danish Brotherhood,
Stationary Engineers Association of Portland and the local chapter, American War Dads.
He is survived by his widow, the former Ella Jensen: two sons, Galen E. and
Leslie C. Hyberts, both of this city; a daughter, Mrs. June Stevens, also of this city;
a sister, Mrs. Julia Hansen, Westbrook : a half-sister. Mrs. Marie Adams of
Salmonhurst. N. B. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
at 2 p. m. Thursday at 749 Congress Street with interment in Brooklawn
Memorial Park.
