LOIS V. HANSEN

Lois Verlee Hansen was born on October 3, 1927 to Marius and Rose (Petersen) Jensen in Monroe Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa. She attended school through the eighth grade at Monroe Township No. 1, Walnut High School for three years, and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1945.

On June 26, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Wayne Hansen at Bethlehem Lutheran. They became parents to four children: Becky, Bruce, Brent, and Brenda. The family lived on a farm north of Walnut, Iowa, for two years. During that time, Lois taught country school in Monroe Township. In 1949, the family moved to the home place where she grew up. Lois was a homemaker while her children were in school. After Brenda graduated, she returned to working part-time as a CNA at Salem Lutheran Nursing Home.

Wayne retired from farming in 1988 at which time they moved to a home in Harlan. After his death in September of 2005, Lois remained in her home in Harlan until October of 2009. She lived for a brief while at Peace Haven in Walnut and became a resident of Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn on October 6, 2011. It was there that she died on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 having attained the age of eighty-six years, seven months, and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Brenda, sister Hazel Kjer, and brothers Woodrow and Wilfred Jensen.

She is survived by her children: Becky and her husband Larry Eskov of Harlan, Iowa, Bruce Hansen and his wife Ann of Atlantic, Iowa, and Brent Hansen and his wife Linda of Avoca, Iowa; son-in-law Ron Hamilton and his wife Rachel of Walnut, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
